The Truth is in His Plan An Interview with Emily Battinelli By Denise Kane Walk on any college campus in the spring and you can just feel the energy. On this particular day the energy being expended had nothing to do with the onset of warmer weather yet everything to do with faith. Emily Battinelli is a junior, Electrical Engineering/Pre-Med Student at Villanova University whose faith is the generator that powers each aspect of her life. Emily grew up in Ellicott City, MD where she attended Woodmont Academy, a Regnum Christi School, at the Elementary Level and Mt. deSales Academy, a Dominican Sisters School, for High School. She believes that her Catholic school foundation, coupled with spiritual guidance provided by her parents, is responsible for her unwavering faith. Growing up, Emily recalls her mother’s Rosary group for families which met weekly for the rosary and they would also participate in community service projects together. In grade school, Emily attended weekly Mass with her classmates. One day after Mass her teacher said "Jesus, You are now in my heart" and those words still run through her head each time she receives the Eucharist. She learned about Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at Mt. deSales. The Chapel was the focal point on campus and a source of strength for the students. By the time she became a student at Villanova, Emily’s faith was intricately woven into her life. Through her apostolic formation, service was second nature to her. She became involved in Service Learning and participates in service opportunities through her major; the latest being a Spring Break Trip to Nicaragua to work on their water system. Emily is committed to spending time before the Blessed Sacrament weekly. She believes that Christ gives us a kind of peace that nothing else can. He offers us so many lights to find solutions to situations in our lives that have us concerned. She feels that God gives us all the graces we need to look at life from a bigger perspective. "The truth is in His plan, if we just give Him time, He will give us everything we need". Back when Emily was in grade school, her Alma Mater’s motto was "Semper Altius" meaning "Always Higher". She is a shining example of a young woman who is committed to Jesus Christ and strives to grow through God’s grace and live her faith through service to His people.
